after 10 weeks of clinicals. finally back home to the islands. The plane ride was alright. woke up about 5 times just cuz i was uncomfortable. at least i slept for the most part. Got off the plane, picked up my bags, it was one of the first ones to come out :D. I think i know the secret***. the secret to checking in late. waiting at the terminal for 1hr tops. and then getting your baggage early. haha. anyway, that only works on mcarran international airport terminal 2, red eye flight with Hawaiian airlines.
Finally reached my destination. HOnolulu International airport (HNL). expected a blast of humidity and for it to be hot. no sir ree. it was nice with trade winds blowing at a good 15+mph. Family picked me up and as usual, the kiss from mom and the conversation with the sister and Dad. Dad always comes up to joke about something, never a dull moment, unless he's mad of course. He was wide awake with his lion kona coffee brewed fresh. Went straight to Golden coin (hawaii version of goldilocks). mommy bought pandesal, pancit bihon, pan de coco... all for breakfast. good fulfilling breakfast. Mom and sis went to church and i took a nap instead.
Afternoon came around. Went to the Youth for Christ sunday assembly meeting. It was good to see all the familar faces again. smiles on their faces knowing that I arrived in the morning. greeting each other and just having fun again. I gotta say, the youth has been growing and I'm very proud of them. Reminds me of when I had tasks to do. I spoke so Oswald about their growth and he said it always takes a nudge or a push to get them going. They still have a lot to learn. It strikes me sometimes because my choice for actions isn't always the best. @ 22, I'm still a growing young adult with a lot of life to experience. A 15 year-old gives a talk and it still hits you, relates to what you should and shouldn't do in life. I looked out the window as the nice island breeze flowed through the dry Ewa brush, i didnt notice any of the older ones in the room so i decided to step out. Instead of going to mass that day, I decided to hit up the beach with Edward. Ed had already gone to mass on saturday so he was excused. Myself, on the other hand, was just dying to get into the water after all the clinicals and getting blasted with triple digit heat. I was later slightly punished for not fulfilling my obligation.
Went to 7-11 to grab green tea and a couple of pork hash. I always think that our (hawaiian) 7-11's are luxurious compared to vegas ones. just because of the type of food they offer. luxurious maybe a bit too exaggerated but it sure is bomb. We got to my escape, my beach. white plains. it was flat and the sets weren't really showing up. ed had purchased a set of pod fins, nice stiff, good thrust for paddling out. mine on the other hand "orcas" were very flimsy. i was embarassed. as i got out, the sets started rolling in and the waves curled one by one. I thought it was gonna be a flat day and i just went out for the workout. a work out and a good wave session was what i got. then my toes started to cramp, first on the right foot, and then on the left. I realized that it was my punishment for not going to mass. while that happened, the waves started crashing down and i had to constantly duck dive to avoid getting pounded. ed got majority of the nice waves while i just stood out and waited for more. I finally decided to paddle in and told ed to catch a party wave with me. (party wave- more than one person catching a wave). we did and i think it was the best wave of the day. we could've literally held hands, while on the wave (NO HOMO). haha
after the beach, went to a baby shower, typical flipino style dishes. very delicious. knocked out right after. long 1st day, gonna be a longer summer month. but i'm grateful. i think its my longest blog w/out pics. looking forward to the upcoming days. gonna be good :D
