1st time performing CPR

Today, as usual I was scheduled in the Emergency Room. I though it was going to be a slow thursday. around 11ish a patient went into cardiac arrest and the staff was performing CPR. The officer there said "you ready to get in?"
lab tech goes "yeah get ready (laughing)."
rad tech says "imma point at you if they need help."
-I just laugh it off thinking that it was joke. then the nurse says
"get ready you need to take over."
-i said " really, are you serious?"
she says "yeah glove up and get in there."
-so i gloved up, got in and took over.
the ekg tech said push hard because he was a heavy patient. i needed to use my strength. All through my mind i thought to myself, "what if i break his ribs?" instead i performed my job, dr. told me to HOLD COMPRESSION. he felt for a pulse simply said. that's it, not much more we can do for him. and the patient passed.

3 minutes later another code came in and again they were performing cpr on this patient. ekg tech asked if i wanted to get in, i said "yeah i'll do it since i'm fresh, you were giving compressions thru that whole cycle, i'll take over."
emt said "you ready, got it after me?"
-i simply replied and feeling the adrenalin rush through my body i said "yes i got you." then i took over and did a couple compressions. Dr. stopped me once again and said, i think i got something. The patients pulse started up again and he was revived.

It's crazy how I'll talk to other hospital employees and some will say they have never done cpr except on a dummy, and just my luck I had to perform twice today. I guess you can say i'm 1 for 2. pretty crazy.

***Thank you God for carrying me through this excperience and giving me the strength i needed to stay focused.

Hawaii warriors vs UNLV rebels

rolanda headed the UH vs UNLV tailgate. 'twas a success. thanks to every one who came out. I ended up having to run the grill. All those times throwing bbq's at my place and not grilling... finally caught up to me. It was good for the most part though. there were many different groups and each of them were ashamed to grab food till the last minute. the game went well, it was a back and forth game, score 34-33 unlv. THEY deserved it cuz they played hard. good job rebels. A lot of rebel fans started talking smack and cheering. I'm surprised there were less fights than 07' UH vs UNLV game.

*****thanks @rufio_o for being camera whore :-p! haven't brought my point and shoot out for a while. so you pretty much covering most/all the events i'm at. and @rolandaaa for the UH unlv pics.
**i need a canon point and shoot :D.

bloods and crips: made in america

I look at different cultures and ask myself, why are blacks discriminated upon in life. I would say to myself, sometimes they chose to do the wrong thing and all it takes is just one person for it to look bad on every one else thats linked to them.

I recently watched a documentary on bloods and crips : Made in America and its sad to see these African Americans being targeted by society for the wrong reasons. It wasn't their fault that the previous generation was brought into a gang, but those who live in south central LA are born into gangs. Most of them have no way out. It saddens me to see how a country so great can establish a society in which a certain group of people are hated. Not because of their individuality, but because of their race and color. I'll admit, I sometimes get caught in the same mentality in which I'll start to judge based on what I see, but at the same time, being judgeamental is wrong. We live in a country where we are supposed to be free and yet we're oppressed by the corruption of our government. makes you wonder, does living in america actually mean you're in the "Land of the Free?"

Anthony's bbq at the [hF] casa

had another bbq at the house. last bbq for a while. thanks to those who showed up. this time i was cooking for the most part, for those of you who don't see me at the grill. didn't have much to eat because i had to watch the meat become succelent and juicy delicious for the guests, but i did pick at the stick, have a drumstick, and that's about it. I'm pretty sure every one enjoyed themselves.

Happy 22nd bday bro. live it up ...and let's give him one CHEE HOO, for the boyz!

older?

As the years go by, you start to age. I always grew up being the young hearted immature person that I was, which also defined the person that I am today. Thinking about responsibilities and being an adult, I say to myself, "I wish i was young again." Sometimes good to think and reminisce about the past, seldom looking forward to what's ahead. Growing up, you'd have no responsibilities and nothing to worry about, except homework. other than that, parents were there for you.
although getting older comes with more responsibilities, I actually thought to myself, "i wish i was older." older in a sense that I'd probably be starting my career, focusing on other goals, and maybe settling down. :: sigh ::

Clearing my Mind

Today was my clinical Thursday. Woke up this morning not wanting to get out of bed, but like any other day, I look towards the positive side and go about my life. On the way to the hospital I listened to my summer playlist which I made for a friend. It started to bring back memories. (1corinthians 13:4). I just have to keep that in mind.
So my clinical day started, I was put in the ER. and I took my time. had a couple of morning chest xrays. Went downstairs and my clinical coordinator pulled me to do some patients on the floor. At first I was annoyed that she made me go help her, considering the fact that i was assigned to the ER. instead, I kept my head up and did them, they werent that bad. Tried to stay positive the whole day.
During my break I had a quick lunch and sat in the couryard to clear my mind. I tried picturing life ahead of me wondering where I'll be in the next couple of years. by this time next year I should be a certified tech, but am I gonna be here in vegas still or back home in hawaii. To stay in vegas is ideal because of the cost of living and being able to afford a home. then again, Hawaii will always be In my heart and I love the water so much. There are things in Life you have to sacrifice and moving away from home was something I did in order to focus on my future. A good sacrifice, tough, but worth it.
